Walking through winter - My latest story...
Warm wishes to you all for a peaceful and joyous start to a new year……my apologies to you for my radio silence as it has been a year since my last story post. So, I will keep it short and sweet, just like a mince pie!
Peruse and ponder on for this, my Winter Story…
The most exhilaratingly stunning train journey I ever experienced….from Bergen to Oslo, August 2025
My new advent calendar using 24 paper stamped cones!
Inspired by Nordic winters and super easy to store until next year
This past year has flown swiftly through with a mixture of home renovations that somehow never fully cease……a demanding job that manages to control my time and attention more than I would like, despite my best efforts…now there is a new resolution right there for a start….
We did manage a trip to Norway for the first time and I felt right at home there, I mean I actually saw people polishing the leaves of the plants in the parks! Needless to say, along with beautiful examples of design around every corner and a chilled atmosphere everywhere we went, just utter bliss. The trip fuelled some new ideas for my printmaking, aiming to capture a sense of space, light, shapes and atmosphere…..

For this new series I used a range of screen-printing methods to explore surface patterns and textures with halftone and pops of neon……of course…
This body of work culminated in my submission to the annual Members Show at Edinburgh Printmakers’, ‘Our Shared World’, in exhibition until March 15th 2026.
Our Shared World invites Edinburgh Printmakers’ Studio Members to reflect on the world we live in individually and collectively, from a community committed to exploring how printmaking and the arts can promote understanding of how to be human in today’s world.

Getting ready to be wrapped and delivered, complete with 3 impasto brushstrokes, influenced by Edvard Munch and the stunning gallery in Oslo…..
In the summer Edinburgh Printmakers was delighted to partner with interior design company Studio Lizonne to dress the new Grove House Hotel.

New Commission for the Western General Hospital
During a very rainy autumn I was invited by Tonic Arts to submit a range of my work for a proposal for a bespoke commission for the new ‘Relatives Room’ in the ICU at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. I was both honoured and thrilled that the nursing staff chose me and I am still working on a set of 3 prints, inspired by my collections of real pressed leaves. More on this to follow….
A crafting hour works wonders and nourishes your soul….
To leave you with…..
What am I reading?…….If I can’t have snow then at least I can read about it in this glorious as well as insightful book ‘Snö’….A beautiful and profound natural history of snow from the bestselling, award-winning Swedish environmentalist Sverker Sörlin. Alternatively, If Women Rose Rooted has been described as both transformative and essential. Sharon Blackie leads the reader on a quest to find their place in the world, drawing inspiration from the wise and powerful women in native mythology, and guidance from contemporary role models who have re-rooted themselves in land and community and taken responsibility for shaping the future. Beautifully written, honest and moving, If Women Rose Rooted is a passionate song to a different kind of femininity, a rallying, feminist cry for the rewilding of womanhood; reclaiming our role as guardians of the land.
